When he was a boy of seven, Oliver’s family moved from Winchester, England, to Southern Connecticut, where they eventually owned a succession of small boats on the local lakes. The summer after graduating high school, however, was when the boating bug truly bit. Oliver bought a small sailboat, patched it up, taught himself to sail, and off he went. While earning a bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies from the University of Connecticut, Oliver continued his love affair with boats—from frostbiting JY15s to summer jobs on a 130-foot schooner, he did it all. Eventually Oliver worked his way up from deckhand to Coast Guard-licensed 100-ton captain, along the way gaining experience with many types of vessels, modern and classic, and with ocean transits from Nova Scotia to the Florida Keys. Oliver joined Yachting Solutions from his previous post as a private yacht captain and is now based in our Rockport, Maine, headquarters, where he leads our team of delivery captains and helps our clients get the most from their boats.
